In our test case, it shrunk from 19GB to a mere 50MB! You could delete them or, if youвЂ™re cautious like us, move to a temporary folder.Д®ither way, youвЂ™ll get a prompt to confirm this action.ДЄfter the delete/move, check the size of the вЂClicktoRunвЂ™ folder to see how much space youвЂ™ve saved. WeвЂ™ve chosen to remove all the folders before that date. In the above list, thereвЂ™s a вЂUserDataвЂ™ folder dated 23 Sept 2015. But how old? ItвЂ™s an educated, cautious guess. Most Office 365 for Windows installations are CtR, thatвЂ™s the default and it was the only option for some time.

You can delete or move the older folders. Click to Run (CtR) is the newer and mostly better way to install Office.

Click on the вЂDate ModifiedвЂ™ heading so the list is sorted with the newest files first. There will be many sub-folders with long unique names. Why the difference? The folder dates suggest that the unnecessary folders are leftover from the Office 2016 Preview. Another computer had a mere 25MB in the same folder, so thereвЂ™s nothing to do. Look at the Size, if itвЂ™s large (ie many GB) then it could be trimmed.Д«ut thatвЂ™s isnвЂ™t always the case. Select all items (Ctrl + A) then right-click and choose Properties. In the folder, check to see how much space it is using. YouвЂ™ll have to make hidden folders visible in Explorer. At worst, youвЂ™d have to reinstall Office. This is NOT supported by Microsoft so use at your own risk. HereвЂ™s how you can free up disk space used by the Office вЂClick to RunвЂ™ install. We found 19GB of unnecessary files on a test machine. They can amount to many gigabytes of wasted disk space.ДЄmazingly, there doesnвЂ™t seem to be any official tidy up option available to reclaim all that disk space. MicrosoftвЂ™s Click to Run install may accumulate a lot of temporary files that stick around on your hard drive.
